The chair of the Rocky Lake Common board chair says construction on the Gary Martin temporary bubble dome is starting again now that city has granted the project its foundation permit.
Barry Mason says the permit allows builders to return to the site for final site preparation, the pouring of the concrete slab and foundations to anchor the inflatable dome.
"The city's approval of the permit is the initial pay off for community volunteers who worked so hard to try get the rink ready for this hockey season," Mason said.
It is the first of two key permits needed for the Gary Martin arena project. Mason said he was hopeful the all-important building permit for the dome would follow very quickly. He also thanked renowned local architect Lydon Lynch for shepherding the project on behalf of the board.
Mason said, with the city's cooperation, the dome can be up in two to three months.
"I continue to be optimistic that the city will respect the wishes of the community and its young athletes and work with us to provide ice this fall," says Mason.
The board's application for a foundation permit was required to undergo extensive scrutiny by city officials, which caused some delay in the issuance of the permit. - Submitted
