It's hard to explain exactly what makes the Sackville Drive Business District such a great place to do business. Of course, I can rattle off all of the statistics: that there are 28,000 people within 2 km of the district; or that there are 13,000 cars that drive by a Sackville Drive store front each day. But it's more than that. It's the sense of belonging, of loyalty.
It's all the little things that the business community does collectively and individually. The fact that Payzant Home Hardware volunteers their truck to use for a float in the Patriot Days Parade, that Sackville Recycling continually takes the time to put a new community event on their sign but rarely uses it for their own business purposes, that other business owners care enough to ask the 'new guy' how business is going.
It's that volunteers care enough to dedicate hours and hours to improving the district for all businesses. That businesses support the local community and, in turn, residents support local businesses. I guess that "something special" is simply that we are a group of people who really believe in our community. Thank you for your continued support.
The Sackville Drive Business Association is currently accepting nominations for the 2009 Sackville Drive Business Awards. The deadline for submissions is February 15th, 2009. For full details and nomination forms go to www.sackvilledrive.com.
