Dartmouth's largest shopping centre has gone Bullfrog Green.
Earlier this month Mic Mac Mall made the decision to expand its commitment to green electricity by choosing Bullfrog Power for 50 per cent of the electricity requirements of their common areas.
"At Mic Mac Mall, we know the environment is important to our shoppers and retailers," said Terry Harvie, general manager of Mic Mac Mall, "which is why we have partnered with Bullfrog Power to support green electricity as part of the mall's sustainability efforts.
"We believe that by choosing to support renewable energy, businesses in the Maritimes can play an important role in the future of this community."
Harvie said he is pleased to be one of the first companies to sign on with Bullfrog in the Maritimes. Customers of Bullfrog do not need any new equipment and there isn't any interruption to your business operations, making it an easy sell to both businesses and homes, he added.
"Bullfrog Power's electricity comes from wind and hydro facilities that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada, instead of from polluting sources like coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear," he said. "It helps us make the stand for renewable energy in the Maritimes and to promote leaving a cleaner world for future generations."
Holly Bond, director of sales and marketing, eastern region, for Bullfrog Power, said how it works is simple.
"Bullfrog's Maritime generators simply inject renewable electricity onto the regional grid to match the amount your home or business uses," she said.
"Businesses that already receive an electricity bill will continue to receive that bill for the cost of conventional electricity and they will receive a separate electronic bill from Bullfrog for the greening of their electricity service."
Harvie said Mic Mac had already offset the cost of Bullfrog by the earlier replacement of their old lighting and the addition of a new heating and air conditioning plant.
"What Bullfrog does is make you think of even more ways to protect the environment and look to the future," he said.
