When members of the St. John's Church in Westphal were unpacking goods donated for a recent flea market, they discovered something that definitely should not have been there: a lady's diamond engagement ring.
Pat Smith said she found the ring nestled in the corner of an otherwise empty, light green basket that was donated for the church's Feb. 6 flea market. Smith figures the ring must have fallen off a woman's finger when she was packing things up for the sale, and she didn't realize it.
"It looks like it belonged to an older lady," she said. Smith took the ring to a jeweler to make sure it wasn't costume jewelry, and confirmed the diamond is real.
While news of the found ring was included in a recent church bulletin that goes out to members, no one has come forward to claim it. Smith is worried the ring may have been among items donated from a non-member who lives in the area, and may still be looking for it.
If you think it's your ring, phone Pat Smith at 433-0483 to identify it.
