The largest Lawtons Drug Store in Atlantic
Canada is now open at 90 Main Street in Dartmouth.
"We are very proud of this store," said Rob
Sobey, president and CEO of Lawtons. "It takes
the conventional large footprint and adds an
additional 10,000 square feet to make a 23, 500
square feet store. This is the first of Lawtons
new generation look of design and customer
traffic flow."
The store is a result of the combination of
the old Woodlawn and Ilsley Lawtons stores
and is only the second one in Atlantic Canada
that allocates the full 10,000 square feet to
health care products and service, said Sobey.
And this store has an added special feature
of new age robotics. The Parata Max is nextgeneration
pharmacy automation that dispenses,
labels, verfies contents and prints the
labels of all the prescriptions.
"This all happens in less than 45 seconds,"
said Sobey. "And having this system frees up the
pharmacist to do what they really need to do,
and that is deal with clients on a one to one
basis."
Sobey said they realized clients want to
have the attention and expertise from their
pharmacists and want to have health care
needs addressed. So they listened and added
private consulation rooms for clients to discuss
their medications, wheelchairs, ostomy supplies,
vehicle conversions, maternity and mastectomy
needs, bracing and diabetic support.
"And that is only some of the many home
health care needs that we will be covering," said
Sobey. "We are advocating for the better long
term health, independence and comfort of our
clients and building relationships with them to
last a lifetime."
The store will have three mechanical workshops
on site and a fleet of rehab products specialists
that will travel throughout the area.
"We will install stair lifts and will provide
whatever else a client needs to gain independence,"
he said. "The pharmacists work on prevention
and treatment and the other specialists
will do their best for clients. We are proud
of the team we have built and defer to them."
Sobey said although this kind of store is a
relatively new challenge for him - describing
himself as a guy who is used to selling groceries
- he is excited to be on the forefront of this
more personal way of dealing with customers.
"Really this store is a blend of the old and
the new," he said.
"We have combined the best of what our
experienced Lawtons staff has to offer with
new ideas given to us by our customers over
the years. I think we are on to something
great."
