BEDFORD - Tony Edwards launches this weekend's Celebration of Bedford's Written History at Scott Manor House with his new book, Historic Bedford.

The book is one of the latest to be released in Nimbus Publishing's Images of Our Past Historic Series. That series includes Robert Harvey's Historic Sackville, published in 2002. Edwards will be on hand during the Nov. 17 release of his book to sign copies and answer questions.

"The book launch is being held in conjunction with our own celebration of the written history of Bedford," explained Ann MacVicar, chairperson of the Fort Sackville Foundation that oversees Bedford's historic Scott Manor House.

During the celebration, copies of six new written histories (monographs) will officially be presented to Scott Manor House and the Bedford Public Library. Many monographs, covering a wide range of topics pertaining to Bedford's history, already exist in the facility's archives. Most were written by summer students and local historians keen to preserve Bedford's past on paper.

The latest written histories were authored by Robert Tennant, Allison Sears, Stephanie McAllister, Kendra Matheson, Brennan MacDonald and Robyn Forward. They've researched and written about topics ranging from the history of politics in Bedford to industries around the Mill Cove area. There's even a monograph chronicling the history of Bedford subdivisions from the 1850s, up to and including The Ravines development.

The Nov. 17 celebration runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Scott Manor House, 15 Fort Sackville Rd.
