Members of the Sackville Drive Business Association were thrilled by the community's response to their first Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The Dec. 4 event was planned by representatives from more than 12 community organizations who started meeting in the spring. Michelle Champniss, executive administrator for the business association, said about 1,000 people attended the inaugural tree lighting at the Sackville Public Library. More than 400 cups of hot chocolate were handed out and they gave out 430 sets of LED Christmas lights. In addition, more than 300 children participated in the library program organized as part of the event. "It was a fantastic first year and the group looks forward to an even bigger and better event for Christmas 2009," Champniss said. - Staff
