Halifax Regional Municipality's newest deputy mayor is the councillor representing Middle and Upper Sackville-Lucasville.
Last week, Brad Johns got the nod from his fellow councillors and will take over from David Hendsbee (Preston-Lawrencetown-Chezzetcook) whose one-year term was up this month.
"I'm into my tenth year on council, and although every day and week brings new challenges, I wanted to challenge myself with something a little different," Johns said of his reason for seeking the position. "I really see it as a personal growth opportunity for me, and it's a great honour and privilege to be asked to be deputy mayor this year."
The deputy mayor is elected annually by Halifax Regional Council. Johns and Jim Smith (Albro Lake-Harbourview) were both vying for the position.
