FLETCHER'S LAKE - Gina Sherrington can't reveal much about her upcoming television appearance on Discovery Canada, but she can say it was amusing.
The Fletchers Lake resident and husband Devin Sherrington own 360 Wellness and Fitness, a personal training company. A client who spotted an ad for the show earlier this year encouraged her husband to apply. He did, and Gina decided she'd also throw her hat in the ring.
In the end, an amused Gina was the one who got the audition call and ended up being one of 13 Canadians selected to participate in the upcoming series I Could Do That.
The program is slated to air sometime in March, so Sherrington must keep some of the major details under wraps. But she can reveal the reality-style show involves people operating large pieces of machinery.
"In my case I made it clear that I couldn't even start my own gas-powered lawn mower, so working something bigger would be interesting and funny," she said. "I did say that I was really confident and competitive with myself. I really enjoy new challenges and always have fun succeeding."
The machinery options included an army tank, a wrecking-ball crane, a race car, an 18-wheeler, construction cranes, and a helicopter.
"I can say it was something I never expected, it was really hard, and challenging," she said. "When people first see it they'll think 'There's no way that she can do that.' But I did, and I did it well, although there was some swearing and scenes where I melted down."
Sherrington said while her task was "a hard job," the challenges were the most difficult.
"Once I got one thing down, they'd throw in a crazy challenge for me to try and beat," she recalled. "If I told you the hardest (task), I'd reveal what I did. Let's just say it took a few attempts!"
Sherrington's challenge took place somewhere outside of Toronto. She spent five days filming for the show, which airs this March on Discovery Canada. Each contestant will be featured in their own 30 minute show.
