The New Democratic Party dominated Halifax in the 2006 election: they won six of the seven ridings covered by The Halifax West Weekly News.
The party that many predict will govern the province after June 9 is in for a tough fight in many seats, but has a shot at a clean sweep if it can recapture Halifax Clayton Park.
Halifax Atlantic
The NDP's Michele Raymond won this seat in 2003 and 2006 and will try her luck again in 2009. The Progressive Conservatives will send Brian Phillips to try and capture the seat while the Greens offer up Anthony Rosborough. The Liberals hadn't selected a candidate as of press time.
Halifax Chebucto
Howard Epstein is after his sixth straight win for the New Democrats this year after romping to victory in 2006. The PC's new candidate is David Atchison while the Greens are sending Jeff Herbert. Jane Spurr is holding the Liberal banner.

NDP Leonard Preyra will defend the seat he won in 2006. This oft-changing riding, with a mix of students and wealthy residents, has been held by all three big parties since 1997. This year, Ted Larsen is running for the PCs, Gerry Walsh for the Liberals and Ryan Watson for the Greens; Watson is also the party leader.
Halifax Clayton Park
Liberal Diana Whalen will defend the seat she won in the 2006 election. Whalen's two wins have been by less than 400 votes and she's facing stiff competition this year. Debbie Hum, the councillor, will run for the Progressive Conservatives and Linda Power will once again represent the NDP. The Green candidate is Amanda Hester.
Halifax Fairview
NDP Graham Steele secured a 2,500-vote victory in 2006. This time, he's seeking his fourth term against Paul Henderson for the Tories, Jane Hester for the Greens and Brad Armitage for the Liberals.
Halifax Needham
The NDP won this seat in 2006, making four in a row for Maureen MacDonald. She is looking to extend that streak against Jason Cameron for the Tories, Kris MacLellan of the Green Party and Graham Estabrooks for the Grits.
Timberlea-Prospect
New Democrat Bill Estabrooks won the 2006 election, as he did in the previous three polls. Gina Byrne will carry the PC standard, Thomas Trappenberg will represent the Greens and Lisa Mullin the Liberals.
