To the editor:
Many people cannot resist answering any phone that rings, regardless of it being a cell phone or a land line (Calling and Driving Not Worth the Risk, The Weekly News, March 28). People just do not want to miss any calls.
I fear that if someone is driving a vehicle and their phone rings - and they do not have hands-free - they may have a tendency to make a quick and unobserved effort to get to the side of the road in order not to miss the call.
This could be more dangerous than if they answered the phone while driving. I'd like to know if the Newfoundland police noticed any increase in this type of accident.
