As a parent residing in the community of Colby Village, I take offense to the comments made by Joyce Treen toward the residents of Colby Village in last week's Weekly News (Community not giving up fight for high school, May 2).
To blame Colby Village residents for a decision made by Howard Windsor to not move forward with a high school for the Eastern Passage area, is wrong.
I agree with the concerns of parents in Eastern Passage whose children must travel out of their community everyday to attend high school, and I support seeing a high school built in Eastern Passage to serve your community.
However, it is my opinion that the solution proposed by the Imagine Our Schools, and supported by the parents of Eastern Passage, is hypocritical - how can you say that it is unacceptable for your students (the Eastern Passage students) to attend high school outside of their own community, and yet it is acceptable for the students of Colby Village to attend high school outside of their Cole Harbour community?
I applaud Mr. Windsor for his decision on this issue.
I do sincerely hope that some day, there will be the required number of students in Eastern Passage to justify a high school be built in your community. But until then, please do not pit our community against yours in order for you to achieve your goals.
