To the editor:
I'm just sitting here shaking my head at the sheer stupidity of people that they can't figure out how to get across the street (Crosswalk flags not dead in the water, Weekly News, Oct. 16). Stop making a mountain out of a molehill.
Here's useful information that safely got me and my family across many a street for many years in San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico where the streets are a lot wider (five to six lanes) and have a hell of a lot more traffic than this little city.
1. Hold your hand straight out, directly in front of you to indicate to oncoming traffic your intention to cross the street.
2. Look both ways for traffic. Wait for traffic in both directions to stop.
3. With your hand still held out directly in front of you, quickly proceed across the street to the other side.
This province has many more pressing matters than putting ridiculous orange flags - something that will continually need to be replaced on every street corner in HRM, paid for by the people of Nova Scotia, and not recognized by drivers from outside of HRM.
