To the editor,

I don't understand dog owners and why they don't pick up after their pets! I have a dog, and I always do. I walk Rainbow Haven with my dog and there is dog feces everywhere. You'll find the same thing on the Bissett Road Heritage Trail, and there are even bags provided for pet owners there. The Heritage Trail also has signs up that say all dogs are to be on a leash. Good Luck with that! Some people walk two dogs and no leash. Irregardless of how well you know your animal, you don't know what it will do at any given time. Joggers, walkers, mothers with young kids/babies walk there with carriages. It can be scary when approached by a dog of any size.

On the Heritage Trail and Rainbow Haven, some people do bag the droppings then drop the bag. These people have no consideration for others. If the dog is off the leash, you have no idea where it does its business. You would think that with the canine virus warning pet owners, people would be a bit more cautious.

There is a trail patrol on the Heritage Trail, perhaps they could assist with some reminders to dog owners? We are so fortunate to have both of these places so close to this city, it is quiet and the nature is most enjoyable. Perhaps now is the time to make sure it remains that way.
