As we celebrate the holidays and remember 2008, I find myself reflecting on the blessings that this job brings to me and my family. It is a great honour to represent the wonderful people of Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage as the MLA.
I have had a wonderful first year. I have the privilege of working with, and for, so many people of different backgrounds, circumstances, ages and cultures. Whether I am helping constituents and their families deal with government, advocating for change in our communities, or working on a province-wide issue, I am grateful to have every opportunity to put my best foot forward on your behalf.
Many of my friends know that I have long hours and a busy schedule, but they also know that that I love every minute of it. It is what I am meant to do. People often ask me if I like the change from municipal government to provincial government and I can wholeheartedly say "Yes." I enjoy working with my NDP colleagues, who are a great team under leader Darrell Dexter. Everyone is encouraged to bring their strengths to the table.
The work that we do as elected representatives starts with you, the citizens of the riding. The issues you bring to me are the issues I am working on and the issues I should be working on. 2009 will bring new challenges and new situations, but I believe our riding and our province has tremendous potential to grow, to improve and to be stronger.
I hope that you and your family have a happy holiday and a healthy and prosperous New Year. weeklydartmouth@hfxnews.ca
