Recently profiled in The Weekly News, Bedford resident Ken Shipley said he was still in pain hours after crossing the finish line at the 2010 Blue Nose Marathon.
"It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life," said the first time marathoner.
Shipley said he started feeling the pain at 15 kilometres, and pretty much stayed that way until the last 10ks.
"I blew up at 15," he said. "I needed water, but every time I took a drink it felt like it was going to come right back up again. It was exhausting and just really hard."
Shipley's official time was 4:36:07 - just six minutes over his goal. His nine-year-old son met him at the finish line with chocolate milk.
"I didn't think I would get emotional," he said. "But when I saw Ian and his Mom I did. I cried."
Despite the pain, when asked if he'll do it again he didn't hesitate.
"I will," he laughed. "I want to beat my personal best."
