Kenneth Sheppard, from Eastern Passage, N.S. proudly holds up the dogtag necklace he received for being named Cadet of the Week for his division at HMCS Acadia, Canada’s largest sea cadet summer training centre, at the final graduation parade on Aug. 16.
Sheppard recently graduated from the two-week general training course, during which he learned all the basics of being a sea cadet and tried out different activities to see which courses he will be interested in attending next year. As well, he had time this summer to play sports and games, go to the movies, hang out with friends at the cadet canteen and visit local attractions like Upper Clements amusement park. The Cadet of the Week award recognizes the cadet from each division that has shown particular dedication, effort or leadership that week.
HMCS Acadia is one of five Cadet Summer Training Centres in Atlantic Canada. Cadets from across Canada and abroad are at the training centre this summer taking part in music, sailing, seamanship, and fitness and sports programs.
