The new year is off to a bang, literally. A 24 year old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was shot at least twice last night. The young man was involved in an altercation near Primrose and Pinecrest just after 5 last evening when he was shot. No arrests have been made yet. Police say they're looking for a black male in his 20's, about 5 foot 8 and wearing a blue hoodie with black pants. This is the city's first official shooting of the year, though there have been two gun-related incidents since January 1st. On the 1st, a man brandished a gun on a Metro Transit bus and last week a man fired an airgun at people near the bus terminal on Mumford Road. There were 61 shooting incidents last year and a record 75 the year before.
Why does a mother nearly starve her daughter to death? It was an attempt to make herself look good a forensic pyschiatrist told the Nova Scotia Supreme Court yesterday. The shrink was testifying at the sentencing hearing for 44 year old Susan Eizabeth MacDonnell of Dartmouth, convicted of aggravated assault and failing to provide the necessities of life. The court was told she did what she did, nearly starved the child to death, basically to get attention. The lawyers will present their closing arguments when the hearing continues today.
677 people were charged with impaired driving in the city last year. 677 idiots who chose to get behind the wheel of their vehicles drunk and put not only their own lives at risk, but the lives of others as well. I believe some newspapers actually publish the photos of convicted drunk drivers. It might be something to consider here too.
A racy ad that features full frontal nudity ended up in some mailboxes around the city yesterday. Canada Post says oops, perhaps they shouldn't have been delivered. The post office is apologizing and says it's investigating the matter. The ad features a woman in a bikini on its front page urging readers to look inside for some kind of secret to attracting women. Flip it open and there she is again, this time naked as a jaybird. I didn't check my mail yesterday. I'll have to make sure I do it today.
Have a great day. Get involved. And if you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.
