The province has accepted 9 of the 10 recommendations in the Utility and Review Board's (UARB) report on gas promotions. Effective Sept. 1, the value of gas promotions in Nova Scotia will not be regulated.

"The UARB's key finding is that gas promotions do not have a major impact on rural gas stations," said Ramona Jennex, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This means more competitive gas prices and will help make life more affordable for families in every region."

The province will establish a registry of promotions that will allow consumers to view and compare various gas promotions.

The government will also begin implementing the recommendation for a petroleum pricing and volume tracking system to collect information to measure the impact of gas promotions.

A recommendation to transfer some motive fuel regulations to the petroleum products pricing regulations requires further review.

Last fall, government transferred the authority to set gas and diesel prices to the UARB and asked the board to hold a hearing and make recommendations on gas promotions.

In March, the board submitted its report and recommendations. To view the UARB's report and recommendations visit www.nsuarb.ca .
