Chicken Little - The Chickenburger has been a staple in Bedford for generations, but the ice cream being served behind the cheeseburgers and onion rings is nothing to shy away from.

With 16 different varieties of hard ice cream, and soft serve with different ‘flavour burst' options including Pina Colada and bubblegum, Chicken Little has plenty to chose from.

"We've been pretty steady, the night times get really busy," Marcy Mackinnon, who works at Chicken Little said. "On Tuesdays we have a show and shine, when all of the old cars come in and they have a little contest. It gets extra packed those nights."

Marcy said her favourite thing to get at Chicken Little is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Parfait.

"It's awesome, little kids come up and you make them so happy giving them their ice cream cone, they get really excited about it," Marcy said. "I think everyone really likes working here, it's kind of a relaxed atmosphere, it's also all younger people who work in it, it can get really hot sometimes, but it is a fun job."

Open daily 12pm - 9pm (Bedford)

12pm - 8pm (Halifax)

Izzy's Bagel Co. - Based on the name, you wouldn't expect to find ice cream here, but since Canada Day weekend, Izzy's has been serving up the good stuff at their Bedford Highway location.

The bagel shop inside closes at 7:00pm but the ice cream stand stays open until 8:30 because it's become a popular spot to cool off. A few chairs and some shade make for a nice spot to enjoy the nice weather.

"People seem to really like the orange swirl and the mint chip," said Stephanie Rybczyn, one of the employees. "With this hot weather we've been selling quite a bit of ice cream."

Izzy's offers 10 different flavours to choose from.

All week: 7:30am - 8:30pm

Vineyard Ice Cream Hut - Situated on the corner of Sackville Drive and Millwood Drive, this Middle Sackville ice cream hut has garnered several nicknames since it's inception. But it's wide variety of flavours and friendly staff have made it a go-to spot for many families.

"We come to this spot because it's close to home and there's always places to sit and they have tons of different varieties of ice cream," Kelly Clarke said. "I like to mix it up, but I usually get a flavour that has nuts in it."

She said another reason why she comes to the Vineyard ice cream hut is because they almost always finds neighours or friends who are also looking for a cone.

"Lately we've been coming here a couple of times a week," Clarke said. "We often come after baseball, it's become a tradition for us."

Her son Jeremy said "I like coming here because I like chocolate ice cream and they have so many different kinds!"
