The East Coast's top musicians will raise the roof - and hopefully more than $100,000 - at the Metro Centre tonight with Halifax for Haiti, a huge relief concert organized to help the Canadian Red Cross rebuild the earthquake-ravaged country.

The show includes Bruce Guthro, Charlie A'Court, Classified, J.P Cormier, Joel Plaskett, Linda Carvery, Squid and many more top acts, with the Trailer Park Boys also scheduled to make an appearance.

DRUM! will open and close the show. Doris Mason, musical director of the group that fuses Nova Scotia's four founding musical traditions, said they were eager lend their songs to the cause.

"Two of (the musical styles) are African and French," she said, making it a natural fit with Haiti, a French-speaking, African-descended country. Mason has travelled in the neighbouring Dominican Republic and was struck by the beauty and poverty of the island.

When organizer Brookes Diamond asked DRUM! to join, they immediately agreed. "Everybody is just so shocked and wanting to do something positive," Mason said.

Scott Ferguson, CEO of Trade Centre Ltd., said it's going to be a great event.

"It's about how we utilize facilities for the greater community good," he said.

Tickets are $20, but Ferguson hopes people will feel inspired to jack up the cost to $100 or more and donate the rest to Canadian Red Cross staff at the doors.

The Metro Centre is being offered free of charge and after covering operating costs, the money raised will go directly to the Canadian Red Cross.

"This is such an overwhelming need, we obviously have to step up," Ferguson said.

The massive Jan. 12 earthquake struck near Port-au-Prince, devastating the Caribbean nation. An estimated 200,000 people died and hundreds of thousands of buildings were reduced to rubble.

Groups like the Red Cross are helping heal the wounded so they can rebuild their country.
