4-H members compete in provincial competition

Nova Scotia 4-H members will compete in communications competitions at the annual provincial 4-H Weekend, May 7-8, at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Bible Hill.

Two hundred and fifty members will participate in public speaking and demonstrations competitions, woodsman contests and the Nova Scotia Horse Classic during the two-day event.

"4-H members are trained at an early age to speak with poise and confidence," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "This training provides youth with technical and leadership skills that are important for the development of community leaders. 4-H members often become successful in business, government, and the community due to the skills they learned in the program."

Saturday, will be 4-H Night in Nova Scotia with 4-H members presenting speeches and demonstrations. Awards will be presented to competition winners, members and leaders who won Canadian 4-H Council National Travel Awards and the provincial 4-H host and hostess, who represent Nova Scotia's 4-H program. The Nova Scotia 4-H Council will present Friends of 4-H awards to individuals who have contributed significantly to the 4-H program.

"I am always impressed to see how self assured 4-H members are at such a young age and I am proud to be part of an organization that has proven ability to develop confident, well-spoken young people," said Janet Anderson, president of the Nova Scotia 4-H Council. "The public is welcome to attend all the weekend activities."
