Porta-pottie funding reinstated by HRM council

HRM has reinstated it's porta-pottie program in this year's budget.

As part of it's proposed budget cuts, city staff had recommended HRM no longer supply portable toilets for sports fields, beaches and parks that are not already equipped with bathroom facilities. Cutting the public service would have saved the city about $25,000.

The city usually installs porta-potties on about 40 sports fields, 10 to 15 beaches, and at a few parks that do not have washroom facilities.

While a complete list of recreational spots getting porta-potties this year was not available, HRM spokeswoman Shaune MacKinlay said if you had one last year, you'll get one this year.

"The only exception is Weir field in Upper Sackville. Last year the porta-pottie was torched and it will not be replaced as there are washrooms available nearby at the Springfield Lake centre," MacKinlay said.
