If you're looking for love and want to support a worthwhile cause at the same time, an upcoming speed dating event in Halifax might be worth checking out.
Organizers of a March 14 speed dating event being held to support The Children's Wish Foundation are looking for single male and female professionals between the ages of 25 and 35 who are searching for true love.
"We had talked about different age groups but settled on younger professionals because we figured they'd be the most interested," explained volunteer Jillian Zinck.
"People seem to think it's a cool and different idea, and if it goes well, we'll consider doing different age groups in the future. We've had a lot of interest expressed, especially from the older age group of people from about 45 to 60."
This first event is limited to 10 females and 10 males. Zinck said upon arrival, the women will sit at separate tables and the men will visit each table, switching every five minutes.
Each male and female will note which ‘dates' they were interested in, and hand their papers over to the organizers at the end of the night.
"If a man and a woman both checked off each other's names, then we'll send an email to both saying there was a mutual interest," Zinck explained.
"Then they can choose to get in touch."
The event takes place at The Argyle at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to The Children's Wish Foundation.
"It's for charity so you're doing something good," Zinck said. "But you also get an opportunity to meet several people you might not otherwise meet in a safe environment and who knows what might happen."
Pre-registration is required by March 8. Call Katrina Leighton at 492-0035 or email katrina.leighton@childrenswish.ca for more information.
