As a result of hazardous weather conditions Halifax Fire and Emergency has issued an immediate ban on open air burning in all areas of HRM.
Residents are also advised that the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources has suspended all current burning permits and is not issuing any new permits in the County of Halifax until there is significant rainfall.
The use of approved outdoor wood burning appliances is permitted if they are used in accordance with the fire safety regulations as outlined in the HRM Burning By-Law O-103.
Residents should be aware that any person who fails to comply with any provision of this by-law may be liable to a penalty on conviction of not less than one hundred dollars ($100) and not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000).
In addition to any fine imposed the court or judge may order the person convicted to pay all expenses incurred in correcting the contraventions of the by-law or any damages associated with such contraventions.
The ban will remain in place until further notice.
