Pursuit / Impaired Driver: Atlantic St. / Pleasant St., Dartmouth

At 8:47 p.m. an HRP East Division patrol unit attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle involved in a property damage investigation but it refused to stop. A brief low speed pursuit took place with the suspect vehicle eventually pulling into a driveway on Irving St . The driver was taken into custody and no injuries resulted. A 61 year old Dartmouth man is being held in custody to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today charged with impaired driving, refusing the breathalyser, resisting arrest and property damage.

Fire: Queen St., Dartmouth. At 12:47 a.m. HRP East patrol units assisted Halifax Regional Fire Services with an apartment building fire. Approximately 30 persons were evacuated. No injuries resulted. Fire investigators are still on scene determining the cause with the assistance of Halifax Regional Police Forensic Identification Section.

Pursuit: Bayers Road / Romans Avenue, Halifax

At 1:00 a.m. an HRP West Division patrol unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a Motor Vehicle Act violation and noted what appeared to be drugs in the back seat. Just as the driver was about to be arrested for possession of drugs he sped away and a brief pursuit then took place. The vehicle was pursued to the 3300 block of Romans Ave where the driver then fled on foot and was subsequently arrested a short distance way. No injuries resulted. A 20 year old Dartmouth man is being held in custody to appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and fleeing police.
