As of late yesterday afternoon, power was restored and the air conditioning system at the Halifax Infirmary building at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre.

Power troubles and the lack of air conditioning forced the postponement of some surgeries, the early closure of outpatient blood collection and the temporary closure of two restaurants in the Infirmary Building Thursday afternoon.

It took some time for the building to return to normal temperatures.

The Abbie J. Lane and Veterans Memorial Buildings were not affected.

A breaker in the electrical room tripped due to the extreme heat in the room and the heavy load on the system. Temporary and permanent measures to improve ventilation in the room will help avoid similar problems in the ongoing heat.
