RCMP responded to a drowning in Blind Bay near Bayside, Nova Scotia.

Shortly after 2:30 PM, RCMP responded to a call regarding an adult male who had been pulled from the water.  When police arrived on scene, the man was unresponsive.  Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.  Earlier in the day, a boat had come loose from its mooring.  The man and another male went out to secure the vessel.  The incident happened when the man was attempting to swim back to shore.   The victim has been identified as 54-year old Johnny Mitchell Jr. from Bayside, Nova Scotia.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Mitchell," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "Our thoughts are with them during this very difficult time."

"I am deeply saddened by this tragedy which further underscores the severity of hurricanes and major weather events," said Ramona Jennex, Minister of Emergency Management Office. "EMO urges Nova Scotians to continue to listen for advisories and to call 911 in the event of an emergency."

If you are facing an emergency and are without phone service, make your way to the nearest emergency room, or seek help from a neighbour.
