Investigators in the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit have cleared the scene at 7 Galaxy Avenue in Dartmouth.
Officers responded to the apartment building on Friday at 5 p.m. to conduct a well-being check of a female resident. That investigation led officers to another apartment in the same apartment building, where the woman, 60-year-old Marguerite Maude Kenney, and a man, 58-year-old Patrick Lee McGrath, were both found deceased.
Based on the investigation, officers have determined this was a murder-suicide that occurred late Thursday night/early Friday morning in McGrath's apartment. It is believed McGrath took the life of Kenney, who was his neighbour, before he took his own. Our thoughts are with their families at this difficult time.
