Given today’s weather forecast, HRM is advising residents that the overnight winter parking ban will be in effect starting tonight, Jan. 27, from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. and will remain in effect until further notice. The city is asking residents to ensure their vehicle is off the street and not interfering with snow clearing operations.
The weather and snow clearing operations will dictate how long the overnight ban will remain in effect. HRM will notify residents when it has been lifted through public service announcements, halifax.ca, 490-4000 and on Twitter “@hfxgov”.
Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event. Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.
HRM is asking residents to remove any street obstructions whenever possible during snow clearing operations. Items such as basketball nets and organic green carts hinder proper snow clearing and can result in damage to property and equipment.
