The 2012 supervised HRM Beach Lifeguard Service and regular water quality testing of HRM beaches will end for the season on Friday, Aug. 31.

Halifax Water wishes to advise those who visit Black Rock and Dingle beaches not to swim in Halifax Harbour for three days following a heavy rain event.

Overflows of screened wastewater resulting from heavy rain, or other situations where full wastewater treatment does not occur, can lead to temporarily elevated bacteria levels.

HRM thanks the general public for a wonderful summer and encourages swimmers to always swim with a "buddy." For more information call the HRM Beach Phone Line at 490-5458 or visit the HRM website at www.halifax.ca/recreation/beaches.html to see a list of the HRM supervised beaches.
