Breast cancer resources added to libraries

Nova Scotians now have access to more breast cancer resources at local libraries.   The Nova Scotia Provincial Library has partnered with Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia to select and purchase a variety of books and materials with information about breast cancer. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Atlantic Region provided the funding.   The collection was introduced today, Sept. 6, at the MacConnell Library in Sydney.   "The province is proud to support and continue to work with organizations like the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia, which are blazing new trails in health and breast cancer promotion and research," said Leonard Preyra, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage.   The Nova Scotia Breast Cancer Resources Collection includes 63 print books and 14 ebooks.   "We are very pleased to have been able to collaborate with Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Provincial Library in the purchase of this new collection of books," said Jane Parsons, CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Region. "Our hope is that these resources will enable breast cancer patients to make informed decisions. Equally important, their families, friends and supporters will have access to information to help them better understand the disease and the importance of their role in the journey."   "This is a wonderful project," said Lynn, a 14-year breast cancer survivor. "Not only is the Nova Scotia Breast Cancer Resources Collection going to create a valuable resource for those newly diagnosed across Nova Scotia, but for the survivors of many years who have an ongoing need for new information."   The collection can be accessed through any of Nova Scotia's 79 public libraries.   The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading national, volunteer-based organization dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer.
