Suspect arrested in irritant spray assault case

Police arrested a 39-year-old male in connection with a Sept. 7 incident in the Halifax Shopping Centre parking lot.

The afternoon of Sept. 7, a 14-year-old girl was walking through the parking lot at the Halifax Shopping Center when she was approached by a man and sprayed with a sensory irritant. Emergency Health Services were called to treat the victim at the scene.

The suspect fled on foot heading towards Bayers Road. 

On Sept. 8 police arrested a 39-year-old male. The suspect is facing multiple weapons related charges including: 

•Administering a Noxious Thing

•Assault with a Weapon

•Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon 

•Possession of a Weapon Dangerous

The accused has been released pending an Oct. 30 court appearance at Halifax Provincial Court.
