A man faces charges in connection with a number of incidents where vehicles were broken into and damaged.

Yesterday at 2:31 a.m., officers responded to the 5800 block of University Avenue to a report of a man was breaking into vehicles in the parkade. It was determined that five vehicles had been broken into and items had been stolen. A dog unit was able to track the suspect, who was arrested on Greenwood Avenue.

Later that morning police respond to the 5500 block of Fenwick Street to a report that multiple vehicles in an underground parkade were broken into.  Upon arrival, investigators learned that 12 vehicles had their windows smashed out and that in a number of cases items had been stolen.

A suspect description was obtained that matched the man who had been arrested earlier that night for similar offences.

As a result of both investigations, 37-year-old Dean Gordon Normand was scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial court yesterday to face a number of charges including break and enter, property damage, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.

The investigation is on-going and additional charges haven’t been ruled out.
