Halifax Regional Police is investigating a report of a man approaching children at Fairview Heights Elementary in Halifax.
On Sept. 24, a female student was on her way to school where she was approached by a man who touched her on the head and gave her a small amount of change. She quickly proceeded inside the school and later reported the matter to her parents who contacted the school on the next day. Fairview Heights Elementary is located at 210 Coronation Ave. in Halifax.
Today, Sept. 26, a second female student was approached on school property by what is believed to be the same man, hiding behind the playground equipment. The man asked for her name and phone number, and she quickly left the area. She immediately reported the matter to school officials who were unable to locate the individual and contacted police.
A man matching the same description was also spotted in the area of the school Annex building at 141 Rufus Ave. in Halifax on Sept. 18, although he did not approach any children. Police were called to the area but were not able to locate him.
He is described as a slender white man, 60 to 70 years old, with thinning gray hair. On today’s date, he was wearing a dark colored track jacket, faded blue jeans and a ball cap. He is believed to be travelling on foot.
Police would like to speak with this individual and request the public’s assistance in reporting any sightings. Police also encourage parents to reinforce with their children the importance of not talking to strangers.
