The 19-year-old man who was struck while crossing Pleasant Street in Dartmouth last week, has died. He passed away as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident. At this time the investigation is continuing.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Sept. 25, the young man was crossing Pleasant Street at the intersection of Carleton Street in Dartmouth. The man was in the crosswalk at the time. A vehicle travelling southbound on Pleasant Street struck him.

The driver stopped immediately after the accident. The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 56-year-old man, was not injured in the accident.

EHS was on scene quickly and the pedestrian was taken to the QE2 hospital with injuries that were considered to be life threatening. The Halifax Regional Police Accident Investigation team, as well as the Forensic Identification Section, were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.

There needs to be more penalties for people who do not pay attention at these crosswalks! I have seen near misses there so many times and it is even worse that the metro transit stop obstructs the view of the crosswalk because the stop is before it. So sad, tragic loss of life. Heart goes out to the family.
