Police have arrested one male in the Narico Downey homicide investigation.

At approximately 8:48 p.m. on July 29, RCMP responded to a 911 call of an injured man on Downey Road in North Preston where they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to the QEII Health Sciences Centre where he died from his injuries. The investigation was deemed a homicide.

The homicide investigation was added to the Nova Scotia Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program on Sept. 28.

Information received because of the program assisted with the investigation.

As a result, police were led to a male suspect in the case. Yesterday afternoon, Oct. 11, that suspect turned himself in to the RCMP/HRP Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Stephan Johnson, 21-years-old, from North Preston, has been charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of Downey. He will be appearing in Halifax Provincial Court this afternoon.

Information provided to the province's Rewards program must lead to an arrest and a conviction before the individual can be considered for the reward. The reward amount is based on the investigative value of the information.
