HRM is taking the next step towards the future redevelopment of the Cogswell Interchange by issuing a call for proposals for a detailed technical analysis of the site.
“This call for proposals is an important next step in moving forward on the highly anticipated design and implementation plan for the future redevelopment of the Cogswell Interchange site,” said Mayor Peter Kelly. “The Interchange lands are a key opportunity site in downtown Halifax, and how and when it is reconfigured will set the tone for downtown Halifax for decades to come.”
HRM’s request for proposals, to be issued tonight at 12 a.m., includes a detailed technical review and analysis of the myriad transportation, engineering, urban design and financial requirements in tandem for the first time. Previous studies, reports and public feedback on the Cogswell Interchange solicited by HRM over the past several years will be taken into consideration by the proponent as part of this work.
Kelly stressed the importance of having a sustainable, well-thought out vision and plan for the site before the first piece of concrete is removed. “During HRMbyDesign, the Cogswell lands were highlighted time and time again as an opportunity to significantly improve our first impression to those entering the heart of the region. With the release of this RFP we are taking one step closer to making that vision of a redesigned Cogswell Interchange into a reality."
