A man in his late 70s was taken to hospital as precaution after driving through a Dartmouth construction site and into a six-foot hole on Sunday night.

Halifax police say the 79-year-old driver had to be removed from the car from around the front windshield and was taken to Dartmouth General Hospital and later released.

Police say traffic pylons were in place at the construction site on the 600 block of Windmill Road, but the senior may have driven through a large gap between them just before 7 p.m.

The province’s department of labour was notified of the incident and police say the hole was filled after the accident. — Metro Halifax
