Two more pedestrians hit crossing metro streets

Halifax Regional Police is once again urging motorists to slow down and pedestrians to pay extra attention to their surroundings following two car/pedestrian collisions in Halifax.

Yesterday, Jan. 2, at 12:20 p.m., police responded to a car/pedestrian collision in the 100 block of Herring Cove Road, between Punch Bowl Drive and Highfield Street. A 32-year-old female pedestrian crossing Herring Cove Road was hit by a vehicle travelling southbound on Herring Cove Road.  She suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. She was also issued a summary offence ticket for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk zone failing to yield to traffic. A 27-year-old female driver was issued a summary offence ticket for driving while suspended and having no insurance.

This morning, Jan. 3, at 7:33 a.m., police responded to a car/pedestrian collision in the 1500 block of Bedford Highway. A 31-year-old male pedestrian crossing Bedford Highway in a marked crosswalk was hit by a vehicle exiting Sunnyside Mall parking lot. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. The matter is still under investigation and charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are pending.
