Halifax police are releasing more details about a disturbing sexual assault in Halifax on Wednesday morning, and are imploring anyone who can help identify the person responsible to come forward.

Around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, police say the 21-year-old victim was walking on Agricola Street between West and Cunard streets. As she was walking, police say a man standing on the sidewalk called out to her and said he would phone her a taxi.

On Thursday, police issued more details to what happened. They say the victim was then lured into an laneway between Sarah and Woodill streets and forced to have sexual intercourse with the suspect.

“We do want to impress upon the public the severity of this … We want to be very explicit to what happened,” said police spokeswoman Theresa Rath.

“We’re very concerned about this crime. We don’t see crimes like this very often.”

The woman was eventually able to break free and fled the area.

The victim went home and then to hospital where she was treated and released.

Police describe the suspect as a white man, about 24-years-old, five-foot-10 with medium length light brown hair with some scruff on his face. He was wearing jeans and a black jacket.

Rath said they have a team of investigators working the case and have canvassed the neighbourhood looking for tips.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police at 490-5020 or Crime Stoppers. - Metro Halifax
