Officers have charged a man and a youth after a vehicle was stolen last night in Halifax.

Shortly before 1 a.m. this morning, Feb. 20, officers responded to a theft of a motor vehicle in progress in the 5900 block of Chain Rock Drive. As they proceeded to the scene, officers spotted the stolen vehicle at North Park Street and Cunard Street and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle failed to stop for police and proceeded towards the downtown core at a high rate of speed, at which time the pursuit was shut down. The driver of the stolen vehicle subsequently lost control of the vehicle while turning from Duke Street onto Barrington Street and crashed into the sidewalk. No one was injured in the crash. Both occupants fled on foot and were arrested a short distance away.

Cody Richard Jesso, 18, of Halifax was held in custody overnight. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of breach of probation.

A 16-year-old male youth from Halifax was also held in custody overnight. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court today to face charges of theft of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5,000, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, evading police and four counts of breach of probation.
