The first day of spring in the Maritimes is being marked with a wintry mix of snow, freezing rain and high winds.

The low-pressure system is moving across Nova Scotia and has also pushed into New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

As a result several flights in and out of Halifax Stanfield International Airport have been either cancelled or delayed.

School has also been cancelled in the Halifax Regional School Board, along with districts in northeastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Students also have the day off in New Brunswick’s anglophone east, west, north and south districts as well as in the francophone south school district. — Metro Halifax
