Investigators are on scene of a shooting in Dartmouth, one that Halifax Regional Police say was ‘officer involved.’
Police were on scene in the 200 block of Pleasant Street in Dartmouth when the shooting happened at 1:10 a.m.
Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle as part of an on-going investigation. Officers approached the vehicle and were confronted by a male suspect with a firearm, after which officers fired upon him.
While it is early in the investigation, police say it is believed that one officer discharged a firearm while another deployed a non-lethal weapon. No one was injured during the incident.
A total of five suspects, four men and one woman, were arrested in relation to this incident and remain in police custody for questioning.
The suspect vehicle was seized for processing and a firearm was subsequently located inside. Police also executed a search warrant at a business in the same block as the incident.
Halifax Regional Police contacted the Serious Incident Response Team in relation to the officer-involved shooting, and they advised that they would not assume responsibility for this investigation. As a result, Cape Breton Regional Police Service will oversee a review into the officer-involved shooting.
