Support for Mike Savage as the next mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality continues to be high, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Currently, two-thirds of decided voters prefer Savage (67 per cent, compared with 69 per cent three months ago).
Other candidates continue to follow distantly, with Tom Martin garnering support from 13 per cent (compared with 15 per cent) and Fred Connors with 10 per cent (compared with 11 per cent). Matthew Warona is preferred by six per cent (up from three per cent), while Vince Hall garners support from three per cent (compared with one per cent).
Meanwhile, just over one-third of HRM residents are undecided (27 per cent), prefer none of the declared candidates (seven per cent), or indicate it depends (two per cent).
Support for Savage is highest in the former City of Dartmouth (82 per cent, up from 68 per cent) and he retains majority support across other communities in HRM. Preference for Martin continues to be highest in the Bedford/Sackville area and in the rural areas of the municipality. Support for Connors is highest in the former City of Halifax, while both Worona and Hall garner their highest support from Bedford/Sackville residents.
These results are part of the CRA Halifax Urban Report, an independent survey of Halifax Regional Municipality residents. The results are based on a sample of 411 adult residents, conducted from Aug. 10 to Aug. 20, with results accurate to within plus or minus 4.8 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
