What a great start to summer. The warm, sunny weather has made it easy for people to enjoy the outdoor activities they love such as swimming, hiking, gardening and camping. Here in Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank we are very lucky that our communities are located close to wilderness trails, beaches, waterways, playgrounds and parks which make it even easier for us to enjoy the outdoors.

I know parents and children have been very busy this summer participating in the various organized activities in our area. I had a chance to visit a few sporting events and day camps so far. I am always happy to be greeted by the children with their energy and smiles. Thanks again to all the staff, programmers, parents and volunteers who keep our children active and safe during the summer months.

Also this summer, we have welcomed thousands of tourists to our beautiful province. I hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy the many attractions including the Tall Ships, cultural, music and food festivals, the International Tattoo, the International Busker Festival, and the Telus Skins Game which included celebrities Kevin Costner and Tom Cochrane.  We have been showcasing the best of Nova Scotia during these events and I encourage you to become ambassadors for our province and invite your family and friends to visit. You can stay in touch with upcoming news and events by signing up for our Tourism e-newsletter at http://www.gov.ns.ca/econ/tourism/.

We can also look forward to more upcoming local celebrations. The Keloose will be held at the Windsor Junction Community Centre Aug. 17-19 and Waverley’s Gold Rush Days on Sept. 5-9. The Waverley Legion will hold its annual Dieppe Day parade on Aug. 19th to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Raid on Dieppe. The 10th annual Beaver Bank-Kinsac golf tournament, in support of their community centre will be held on Aug. 11th at Lost Creek Golf Club. I hope many of you plan to attend and support these events. If not for the work of our community volunteers and leaders, these events would not happen. I commend you on your efforts and success.

I also want to wish Frank Garner and everyone from the Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank area who are representing us in the Olympics in London the very best of luck. Your dedication is an inspiration to us all.

It has been a great summer so far and there is more to come. I have started making day trips as part of my ‘stay-cation’. There are always places to go and things to do in Nova Scotia. As always, I welcome your stories, suggestions, questions and concerns. Please feel free to contact my constituency office, I am flexible in scheduling meeting times to accommodate your needs.I will continue to focus on improving our communities and being your strong voice in government.

Also, myoffice has launched a new website and Facebook page that you may find helpful in keeping you up to date on the activities of the government and various local community events. If you would like to have your event added to our website contact my office.
