No Joy in Catville (with apologies to Ernest Thayer)

The World Around Us

Tuxedo had a vision because neglect just doesn't work

He'd been there, so he knew the score, and Stan is not a shirk.

Not actually being human could be easily overcome

In Alaska, Talkeetna's mayor had shown us how it's done.

The outlook was still hopeful for Tuxedo Stan that day

He wasn't on the ballot, but he could win the write-in way.

There were other fine contenders for the mayor of HRM

But animal rights defenders weren't at the polls to vote for them

Stan could disclose campaign donors, if it had come to that

But red herrings can't distract him, even though he is a cat.

More visible than Steve Mackie, less combative than Tom,

Stan has Robert's charm with Aaron's drive and Savage's aplomb

Fred Connors' love for chickens and two ducks was hard to beat

But Stan would help the animals who are living on the street.

A TV host, A. Cooper, endorsed Stan's efforts on his show

And Facebook friends were shouting to the whole world, "Go Stan, Go!"

But HRM is not Alaska. Proof of birth was poor Stan's bane

So if you put him on your ballot, you just cast your vote in vain.

Oh somewhere in this favoured land, the sun is shining bright;

The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,

And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;

But there is no joy in Catville- Tuxedo's name was stricken out.
