Flight Corporal Kyle Thompson-Clement, 16, of Eastern Passage, signals for the slack tow rope to be taken up before launching on his first solo in a Schweizer 2-33 glider during training at the Regional Gliding School (Atlantic) in Debert, N.S. He is at the school this summer learning how to fly gliders and is working toward a glider pilot licence. The student of Cole Harbour High says the cadet program has helped him develop leadership skills and provided a great start for a career in aviation. With his first solo flight now under his belt, he is one large step closer to obtaining his glider licence at the end of the summer.
